Frequently asked questions
How Sarana works — booking, prices, payment, cancellation, and private journeys. Still wondering something? WhatsApp is the fastest way to ask.
What is Sarana?
Sarana is a Sri Lankan company that curates and books locally led cultural experiences — hands-on workshops and multi-day immersions guided by master artisans, healers, musicians, and wisdom keepers. Every experience is led by the person who practises the craft, in small groups, so a fair share of what you pay stays with the makers.
Where do Sarana's experiences take place?
Sarana experiences take place across Sri Lanka — in and around Beruwela, Ahangama, Weligama, Kandy and Koggala, and beyond. Many are along the southern coast; others sit further inland. Some are hosted at the keeper's own workshop or village, and others can come to your accommodation.
What kinds of experiences can I book?
Sarana offers 35 experiences spanning craft, wellness, food, and culture — including batik, pottery, mask carving, cane weaving, cooking, indigenous medicine (Hela Wedakama), music, dance, and guided nature walks. Each is led by a local master keeper.
How do I book an experience?
To book, choose an experience, pick an available date on its page or on the schedule, and pay in full to confirm your place. If you'd prefer a private session on a date that suits you, send an enquiry and Sarana will arrange it.
How much do experiences cost?
Prices are shown in Sri Lankan rupees (LKR) on each experience, from around Rs 5,662 per person. Some experiences are priced per person and others per group, and a few community sessions are free to attend.
How do I pay, and is it secure?
You can pay online by card through PayHere, Sri Lanka's licensed payment gateway. Full payment confirms your place; free community sessions simply need an RSVP. Private sessions and retreats are held with a deposit — we'll confirm the details with your proposal.
What is Sarana's cancellation policy?
You receive a full refund when you cancel at least 48 hours before your experience. For any change closer to the date, message Sarana on WhatsApp and the team will help where they can.
Do you offer private experiences, groups, and retreats?
Yes. Sarana arranges private experiences and bespoke retreats for couples, families, and groups. Send an enquiry with your group size and preferred dates — please allow at least four days' notice — and Sarana will shape a proposal and confirm it with a 50% deposit.
What are Cultural Immersions?
Cultural Immersions are deeper, multi-day journeys built around a single craft or place — living its rhythm rather than sampling it in an afternoon. Some immersions are bookable now; others are still being shaped, and you can register your interest in them.
How far in advance should I book?
Book dated workshops as early as you can, as small-group places fill quickly. Private experiences and retreats need at least four days' notice so your keeper has time to prepare.
